  • The Golden Ninja Podcast 2: Diamond Ninja Force & Ninja Commandments

Posted on July 28, 2014 10:45 am by Sleazy K

    podnetwork1

For this series, we aim to go through the different phases at IFD, from the phase were ninjas were popular, to ones where they tried out kickboxing tint to their cut and paste movies and created their own superhero etc but for episode 2 we’ll stay in ninja territory to give you all yet another aural examination of cut and paste ninja action fun. Fun that is enhanced by the fact that paired up with the IFD footage are genres hardly associated with ninja action: horror and melodrama. So therefore we are discussing Diamond Ninja Force and Ninja Commandments for this episode. With Kenny B and Ed Glaser, the owner and president of Neon Harbour and director of Ninja The Mission Force. Click image or link below to access the show!

Let’s talk some high class fucking! Meaning we turn to the more explicit, sleazier side of the big studio Shaw Brothers but they were not all about the kung fu and swordplay. Oh, from The Knight Of Knights (covered on This Week In Sleaze 5) and onwards, erotica trickled its way into these classy, gorgeous period epics that could also feature swordplay and gore. That’s where we find Intimate Confessions Of A Chinese Courtesan from director Chor Yuen. We’ll be talking of that as well as the Chor Yuen directed remake from 1984 called Lust For Love Of A Chinese Courtesan. Click image below or link to access the show!

Let’s talk some fucking shameless war crime exploitation, maybe not for the last time but certainly the last of the serious chats on that topic connected to filmmaker Mou Tun-fei. A planned trilogy of movies starting with Men Behind The Sun, Mou popped back up again in 1995 to continue his study of Japanese war atrocities in graphic detail. • Taiwan Noir 13: Devil Returns & Kill For Love

Posted on June 23, 2014 5:39 pm by Sleazy K

podnetwork1It’s important to sometime note that part of the selection process for these episodes are about detailing my (Kenny B that is) own journey through this era of Taiwanese movies, mainly late 70s, early 80s. It’s about the disocvery of directors, performers, movies, classic scenes, iconic moments and about trying to explain my comfort factor watching these movies, moments and performers. That means even the stinkers and the mediocrity deserves a voice. That is our long winded way of saying welcome to Taiwan Noir 13 on Richard Chen’s Devil Returns and Kill For Love with Kenny B and  Tood Stadtman. Click image below or link to access the show!

  • What’s Korean Cinema? 13 – Chilsu And Mansu & Nowhere To Hide

What do you get when pairing up movies where the still and straightforward is mindblowing and when the rabid, perfectly indulgent is also mindblowing? Am not sure but you get enough reason for the crew here at What’s Korean Cinema? to examine two classic works, starting with Park Kwang-su’s 1988 drama Chilsu And Mansu and in the second half, Lee Myung-se’s 1999 hyper-stylized hunt for an assassin Nowhere To Hide is covered. Connection between the movies you ask? Well if you did, here’s the answer, the male leads are the same. Click image or link below to access the show!

Posted on June 2, 2014 7:49 pm by Somebody

We officially debute a NEW show on the Podcast On Fire Network! The Golden Ninja Podcast! Am also happy to announce that my co-host for this first go at giving IFD, Filmark, ninjasploitation etc a voice in the podcasting world and for the continuing series hopefully will be Ed Glaser! Filmmaker and actor, he runs Neon Harbor, home of among other things the web-series Ninja The Mission Force (which he starred in and directed). Throughout its 2 seasons, it’s a love letter to Godfrey Ho, IFD and a splendid, free for all and silly experience. Ed was terrific during episode one and be sure to give Neon Harbour a like and if you find the look and sound of his productions intriguing, watch them online or buy a dvd! • Podcast On Fire 181: Mad Monkey Kung Fu & Wild Search

Posted on May 26, 2014 5:35 pm by Sleazy K

Let’s take a look at THE Shaw Brothers director that made kung fu comedy great when they attempted to respond to that booming trend. Namely Lau Kar-leung and his Mad Monkey Kung Fu from 1979. Also in this episode, a look at when a Hong Kong director everybody cried for when Quentin Tarantino “took” his movie away from him but when he took someone elses…template himself. We didn’t mind it for Reservoir Dogs vs Ringo Lam’s City On Fire and sure as hell didn’t when Lam made his own take on the Harrison Ford movie Witness in the form of Wild Search from 1989. With Kenny B and Phil G who also recaps his trip to China and meeting Jackie Chan. Click image or link below to access the show!

Closing out our coverage of Mamoru Oshii, the man with a bible in one hand and a basset hound by his other side, we’ve gone through his early days in anime, live action, how he created history by re-telling it through his Kerberos Saga and how he made history with anime classics such as Patlabor and Ghost In The Shell. In this final episode, we do the mix of live action and anime again as we take a look at his live action, POLISH language movie Avalon from 2001 and his 2008 anime The Sky Crawlers. With Kenny B and with me is VCinema‘s Coffin Jon. Click image below or link to access the show!
